  • The LeBron James Leave-o-Meter: With D'Antoni in New York, threat level jumps to 'Boozer'

The Latest Sign of Impending Doom: The hapless Knicks have hired former Phoenix Suns head coach Mike D’Antoni to right the New York basketball ship. D’Antoni averaged more than 50 wins a season with the Suns, and ran one of the most athletic, entertaining, and successful teams of the past five years. He'll spend the next three years clearing cap space -- just in time for the next LeBron James Sweepstakes. ...

How it Went Down in Cleveland’s Mind: “D’Antoni is LeBron’s dream coach: player-friendly, offensive-minded, and cooly mustached. Plus, King James’ hatred of Mike Brown’s offensive offense is palpable. Sure, LeBron can toss up a near triple-double statline in almost any system, but it’s clear he hates sitting in half-court sets more than he hates automatic 18-percent gratuities. He’d rather throw down a $20 tip than wait for another pick from that crazy Brazilian dude.

LeBron’s like the Boss, man: He was born to run -- up and down the court at a break-neck speed, hammering down alley-oops and finding open teammates with Magic-esque passes. It was enough when it was just New York – just the stage, the money, the life. Now New York has the perfect coach for the best athletic specimen in the NBA. D’Antoni runs a track-team offense, and LeBron wants to sprint. We are so hosed.”
