In the wake of the Black Keys new album, Attack and Release, the Akron music scene hasn't received this much national play since Devo had a top-ten single. The new issue of Rolling Stone (#1053, May 29 2008, Eagles on cover) continues the magazine's serial-gushing about the band. Varsity writer Austin Scaggs declares the disc his favorite album of the year on page 29, and gives national readers a dose of the news Scene readers get every week: Namely, that the Keys spread their love around to local acts like Houseguest and Jessica Lea Mayfield.

Two Northeast Ohio alums also get big ups in the mag: The Eagles feature includes Joe Walsh (page 56), and the new Nine Inch Nails album, The Slip, receives a four (out of a possible five) star review in the leadoff slot. -- D.X. Ferris
