  • Money Where Your Mouth Is: Flowers in Flames at Phantasy tonight

    Fri May 02, 2008 at 03:33:29 PM

Every so often, we rope a band into explaining why you’ll be empty inside without seeing it this weekend. Today, C-Notes passes the mic to Flowers in Flames, goth revivalists featuring a member of Full Wave Rectifier, who are currently recording with Todd Tobias (Guided by Voices) in Kent’s Waterloo Studios.

    Band: Flowers in Flames
    Web: MySpace.com/FlowersInFlames.
    Hometown: Cleveland/Akron
Sounds like: “We have taken an ‘80s gothic/post-punk foundation and given it a modern 21st century cutting edge sound for today's audience. We are a new sound for the area, pushing the boundaries of music.”
Recommend for fans of: “Ladytron, Editors, Black Angels, Interpol, Joy Division, Bauhaus, Siouxsie, Bowie.”
Fun fact: “’Pleasure is the only thing one should live for. Nothing ages like happiness.’ -- Oscar Wilde. We believe in this. Our band motto.”
Playing Where/When: Friday, May 2 at the Phantasy Nite Club. 11802 Detroit Ave, Lakewood, 216-228-6300. With Japanese Car Crash (Texas) and Missile Command (Cleveland).
Why you need to see them: “Our sound is sonic waves never heard before. Lights! Camera! Strobes! and more lights! Plus fashion never seen here in Cleveland!” -- Dave, guitar
