  • With new mixtape, Terry Urban proves his brain works in beautiful ways

Terry Urban, along with business partner and fellow bald-white-guy-DJ Mick Boogie, will soon be on his way to Brooklyn. But any man who brags of contracting “guacamole-dick” from swimming naked in the Cuyahoga is a true Clevelander for life. And before he goes, Urban’s leaving a legacy.

His latest mixtape, “How My Brain Works,” is a 39-track mammoth blend of remixed hip-hop, electro, and well-known ‘70s and ‘80s hits, everything from Biggie to Clipse to LCD Soundsystem to Cyndi Lauper. ...

It’s gotta be the only project where you’ll find a track by “Mobb Deep feat. The Beatles.” There are a lot of winners here, but my favorite track is the one accompanying this blog, “Made Hella Paper Planes,” a mix of Nas’ “Made You Look” and M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes.”

    “Made Hella Paper Planes”:

I’m probably biased, since those are two of my favorite artists right now, but I haven’t been able to stop re-playing this track. Nas’ flow perfectly complements the tempo of “Planes,” which has to be one of the most addictive melodies I’ve ever heard. Urban keeps components of “Planes” lingering for three or four short tracks, which is the best part of this mix: it’s meant to be played all the way through, and never stops to catch its breath.

Download the mix for free on Urban’s website. He promises it will “keep your face in the ‘face melter expression’ for hours.” While we can’t confirm nor deny that, if you’re like me, you’ll end up keeping it in your car CD player for a three weeks. You won’t need anything else. – Gus Garcia-Roberts
