  • Superdelegate Joyce Beatty feeling pressure from Mom, Slick Willy

    Joyce Beatty (D-Her Mommy's Bosom)

Life as a superdelegate isn’t easy these days. For the Democratic decision-makers whose vote may determine the 2008 Presidential nominee, the pressure is mounting. Balancing the whims of constituents and fellow policy-makers (and trying not to piss off the future leader of the free world) is tough enough. But, as Ohio House Democratic Leader Joyce Beatty (D-Her Mommy’s Bosom) is learning, that’s nothing compared to dealing with dear, old Mom. ...

In this Bloomberg.com article (found at Ohio Daily Blog), Beatty talks about fielding phone calls from Barack Obama, wife Michelle, Bill, Hillary, and even Chelsea Clinton. But none of them, it seems, hold as much sway as the elder Ms. Beatty:

The toughest pressure she's feeling isn't coming from the campaigns. With a mother who supports Obama and a father who supports Clinton, she will eventually have to choose between her parents.

"I think my mother puts a lot more pressure on me than anyone," she said. "I have to look at her every day."

Now that there is an endearing story about loyalty to one’s mother – or, perhaps, a ploy by Beatty to score Ma some extra pampering from the Obama campaign. Either way, it's genius, since it's only March and she can already cross Mother’s Day off her calendar. – Caleb Hannan
