It doesn’t look like the long-awaited Stone Mad, Pete Leneghan’s hand-crafted pub on W. 65th, will open in time for St. Paddy’s Day. But no need to cry in your green beer: Here’s a fistful of other spots where you can get Irish on Monday without going hungry:
P.J. McIntyre’s Irish Pub (17119 Lorain Ave., 216-941-9311). Hours: 7 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Eat: limited menu featuring mini-Reuben sliders and corned beef sandwiches. Drink: 17 beers on draft; 12 Irish whiskeys. Make merry: Irish step dancers and bagpipers throughout the day. Tip: Come in before 10 a.m. for a traditional Irish breakfast, complete with fried eggs, rashers, and black and white puddings. ...
The Harp (4408 Detroit Ave., 216-939-0200). Hours: 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. Eat: Limited menu featuring shepherd’s pie, fish ’n’ chips, corned beef & cabbage. Drink: 11 beers on draft; 12 Irish whiskeys. Make merry: Boys from the County Hell, 9 p.m. ($5 cover) Tip: Don’t leave without a loaf of homemade Irish soda bread.
Claddagh Irish Pub (25389 Cedar Rd., Lyndhurst, 216-691-0534). Hours: 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. Eat: Full menu. Drink: try a well-poured Guinness, with a shamrock on top. Make merry: step dancers and bagpipers perform throughout the day. Porter & Stout at noon; Forsythe Special at 3 p.m., Time Traxx at 7 p.m. Tip: Covered and heated, the two outdoor patios may hold the best seats in the house.
The Old Angle Tavern (1848 W. 25th St., 216-861-5643) Hours: 8 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Eat: Limited menu, featuring corned beef & cabbage, lamb stew, and soup. Drink: six beers on draft; 9 Irish whiskeys. Make merry: Whiskey Island Ramblers take the stage, immediately following the parade. Tip: Warm those frozen fingers before the Angle’s roaring fire.
Flannery’s Pub (323 Prospect Ave., 216-781-7782). Hours: 5:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. Eat: Limited menu featuring lamb stew, and corned beef. Drink: 24 beers on draft; 13 Irish whiskeys. Make merry: Boys from the County Hell, 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tip: Get in before 11 a.m. to dodge the $5 cover.
Great Lakes Brewing Company (2516 Market Ave., 216-771-4404). Hours: 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eat: Limited menu, featuring traditional Irish specialties. Drink: 10 craft-brewed beers on tap, including Conway’s Irish Ale and the aptly named Blackout Stout. Make merry: Francis Quinn & Friends, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Project Mojo, 2 to 6 p.m., JP and Colin Dussault’s Blues Project, 7 to 11 p.m. Tip: Reservations aren’t accepted, so come in early or be prepared to wait.
Sullivan’s Irish Pub (13368 Madison Ave., Lakewood, 216-529-8969). Hours: 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. Eat: limited menu featuring corned beef & cabbage, soups, salads, and Irish cheddar dip. Drink: 18 beers on draft; more than 20 Irish whiskeys. Make merry: Patrick O’Sullivan, 3 to 5 p.m.; Whiskey Island Ramblers 8 to 10 p.m. Tip: A traditional Irish breakfast -- fried eggs, imported sausage, black and white puddings, rashers, and fried tomatoes – is on the menu from 8 to 11 a.m.
