  • Maybe That Wasn't the Best Time to Taunt Ohio State Fans

    Tue Jan 15, 2008 at 03:19:24 PM

Many things can drive a man to violence – things like a cheating spouse, anabolic steroids, or football. So we begin our tale at the BW3 in Streetsboro, where fans poured in to watch last week's national title game between Ohio State and LSU.

Alas, Howard Staton, a 37-year-old Brookpark resident, decided to pop in as well. Pertinent facts: He's an LSU fan. And he forgot how pissed opposing fans get when their team is losing – especially when you're taunting them.

As the Buckeyes imploded, Staton didn’t bother hiding his delight. Though out-numbered by scarlet and gray, he loudly cheered on LSU.

Needless to say, the crowd wasn't pleased. “There was some jawing going back and forth,” says Lt. Roy Mosley of the Streetsboro police. “There were some words exchanged. OSU scored a touchdown, somebody has something to say. LSU scores, he’s got something to say.”

By the time OSU was on its way to embarrassing us on national television, frustrated fans, under the precepts of Hammered Guy Logic, decided to blame it on Staton. As they heckled the bar’s sole LSU devotee, words escalated to shoving. So Stanton decided to pull a knife and stab two men.

“Another cut another way, and someone could have been killed,” says Lt. Mosley. “It happened very suddenly.”

The men were transported to a nearby hospital. Staton was charged with felonious assault. -- Denise Grollmus

This kind of thing is only one reason that Sport and Sportsfans are the first two items on my Top 5 List of Things I Despise. Fuckstains.

Heading should have read: Maybe That Wasn't The Best Time to Shove LSU Fan sicne it was the Buckeye fans (worst in the country by the law) that are now healing some slice wounds, and could have been DEAD.
    Jury verdict: not guilty

my husband and I are LSU fans living in Canton OH.(my brother in law played for LSU and still lives in Baton Rouge) Every Saturday we would don our LSU gear and head to a local bar to watch the game. Our best friends are OSU fans and we would cheer each other's teams on. We dreamed for the day they would meet in the National championship game. but it would never fail that after the OSU game, during the LSU game, some intoxicated OSU fans would be loudly rooting against LSU. Their reason behind it was "we don't want to play LSU, they are too good" During the Mississippi State game, I couldn't take it any more and got in the face of the OSU fans. All of a sudden, everyone wanted to fight us. Guess what, it was us that was asked to leave the bar. We haven't been back since. We hosted a party at our house with four OSU couples as guests. We cooked Cajun food and had a blast with our friends. From now on, we will watch the games in the comfort of our own home or that of our OSU friends. I'm too old to get into fights over football games in bars. BTW, my son is a sophomore at OSU.
