  • Money Where Your Mouth Is: Ugly Radio Rebellion

    Wed Jul 18, 2007 at 12:42:59 PM

In which Scene music writers let a band speak for itself. Because they’re busy stuffing their face with a giant gyro from Lakewood’s Bar 2. Damn, are they big.

Band: Ugly Radio Rebellion, Frank Zappa tribute

    Hometown: Detroit

Sounds like: “Frank Zappa! A crazy mix of rock, funk, r&b, blues, jazz, classical, progressive, improv, doo wop, and satire!”

Fun fact: “Has performed with Ike Wills (FZ's guitarist/vocalist), "Joe" from Joe's Garage. And two members of URR have performed with Project/Object, Willis’ Zappa tribute.

Playing: 8 p.m. Sunday, July 22 at Phantasy Nite Club, 11802 Detroit Ave., Lakewood, 216-228-6300 Sunday July 22nd, with Dub Town.

Why you need to see them: “Zappa fans or not, you will love this band. This is the hardest working trio around, with a no-idle-pinky policy. We're all covering numerous parts at once, including singing, kazooing, extra percussion. And our bass player plays the bass and keyboards at the same time.” - Layla Hall, percussionist/vocalist
